About Me
Dr. Anil Kankaria, a board-certified gastroenterologist, has been with MedStar Shah Associates since 2001. Known to his patients as Dr. K, he completed his residency at Prince George’s Hospital Center in Cheverly, Maryland, and his GI fellowship at Georgetown University Hospital.
Dr. Kankaria treats patients with conditions affecting the stomach, esophagus, colon, pancreas, and liver. He also provides care for patients with Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, hemorrhoids (including banding), and performs capsule studies for small bowel lesions. Additionally, he specializes in esophageal stretching for those experiencing difficulty swallowing. Dr. Kankaria manages chronic IBS, which includes symptoms such as constipation, diarrhea, gas, bloating, celiac disease, and food intolerance.
Outside of his medical practice, Dr. K is an avid volleyball player and enjoys playing bridge and golf. He and his wife have three adult children. Lately, they have been enjoying yard work, hiking, traveling, and visiting their children as they progress in their respective careers whenever they have free time.
